In 1998, 7 Mexican Gray Wolves were released into the blue wilderness primitive area of AZ. in order to multiply. The wolves are classified as endangered and protected. The wolve population in the wild is approaching 300, with another 300+ being held in captivity.
Within the wolve reintroduction area in AZ and New Mexico, thousands of cows have been killed, causing an economic impact in the millions of dollars in damages to our ranchers (not including devalued property - property value decreases where wolves attack livestock).
A pair of Mexican gray wolves were released into Cochise County near Leslie Canyon east of Douglas. They have already killed 24 cows.
Wolves are known to pull out a baby calve from the cow
as it's being born.
In the White Mountains of AZ and western NM, bus stops are protected by chain link fences so wolves cannot attack children waiting for their school bus. Children in this area are not allowed to play outdoors unless supervised, due to possible wolve attacks.
A rancher in Northern AZ estimated over $325,000 in damages due to wolves killing his livestock.
